Jovic wins the deciding set
Iva Jovic defeated Alex Eala 7–5, 3–6, 7–5 in the 2026 US Open third round at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Field Level Media reported that Jovic recovered from a break down in the final set to set up a fourth-round meeting with Coco Gauff. The match lasted more than three hours, according to the WTA recap.
Why the finish matters
The result turned on the final set after Eala had forced a decider. That sequence matters to the reading of the contest: she recovered after losing the opener and put herself in a competitive position late in the match. The eventual defeat should be described alongside that recovery, rather than reduced to the final two games or a claim about composure that the score cannot prove.
From the result to the next question
A recap establishes what happened. The useful follow-up is to ask which patterns can be examined across subsequent matches: protection of serve after breaking, second-serve points and conversion of return chances. Our companion analysis calculates the break-point figures from the published match statistics. Those numbers help frame the review, but they do not explain every rally or guarantee how Eala will perform in Singapore.
